Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has announced that Roads and Maritime Services will start work this week on the next stage of an ongoing project to upgrade the Newell Highway at Gillenbah.
Ms Cooke said the NSW Government has provided $5 million for stages two and three of the project to provide a smoother and safer road surface between the intersection of the Sturt Highway at Gillenbah and the main irrigation canal bridge at Narrandera.
“Work will be carried out from Thursday April 26 between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and between 7am and 1pm on Saturdays and is expected to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting,” Ms Cooke said.
“Changed traffic conditions including lane closures will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
“Motorists should plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys and follow the direction of traffic control and all signs, including a 40 km/h speed limit through the work zone 24 hours a day for the duration of the work.”
Ms Cooke added that Roads and Maritime will make every effort to reduce the impact on road users and thanks the community for its patience while this important road improvement work is carried out.
