Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP today announced $756,626 from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund to develop sporting facilities, give young people new skills and upgrade halls across the Narrandera Shire.

The Narrandera Imperial Football-Netball Club, Narrandera Bidgee Boxing and the Narrandera Shire Council have all been successful in securing funding in the third round of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.

The NSW Government funding has been spread across seven projects, each of which will benefit communities across the shire.

  • $267,417 for the Barellan & District War Memorial Club – to upgrade their tennis courts and lighting, remove and replace the existing court surface, build new lighting and new fencing.
  • $120,000 for the ‘Safe Travels – Barellan Footpath’ project – this will see a new concrete footpath to link the Community Health Centre and the Barellan & District War Memorial Club.
  • $100,000 for Community Halls – this project aims to revitalising five local community halls with much needed infrastructure upgrades and minor works.
  • $100,000 for the Redevelopment of NIF-NC clubrooms and changerooms at Narrandera Sportsground – this will replace the existing clubrooms and change rooms with new facilities including specific areas for junior and senior female players and officials, accessible bar and kitchen facilities and a covered spectators area.
  • $69,209 for the Narrandera Bidgee Boxing Community Hub – this project will revitalise the old bar area at the show grounds with a community kitchen and dining area.
  • $50,000 for the ‘Take a Bite into the Future Youth Food Van Project’ – this will involve the purchase of a fully equipped food caravan to be operated by the Narrandera Youth Advisory Council and give young people the opportunity to prepare and serve a variety of healthy foods in conjunction with Narrandera High School Food Technology class.
  • $50,000 for the ‘Holding History: Parkside Cottage Museum’ project – this project aims to protect Narrandera’s history through installing CCTV and some internal painting.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said she was delighted these projects had secured funding.

“The Narrandera and Barellan communities should be congratulated for producing such a diverse range of projects catering to people from all walks of life,” Ms Cooke said.

“There is something for everyone with these projects; from helping young people develop their skills in food service to some of our great sporting clubs creating facilities for all players and spectators. Well done to you all.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said $100 million was being distributed across regional NSW, with regional communities set to benefit from more than 550 new projects.

To date, rounds one and two of the program have funded more than 1,000 projects.

“Locals across regional NSW are seeing the benefits of rounds one and two of the Fund, with projects making a big difference to everyday life, from new playgrounds loved by kids to light towers illuminating sporting fields,” Mr Barilaro said.

“We are funding grassroots projects that make a real difference to each community, and we know how important it is to support our regional towns with new infrastructure and programs.”

The $400 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.7 billion Regional Growth Fund, which is being invested in local programs and infrastructure that improve the lives of people living in regional NSW.
