Ungarie’s local sporting teams and events will soon see a boost with a new amenities block to be built at the showground.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke announced $660,000 from the Showground Stimulus for the new amenities, which will create showers and toilets for the community space.

Steph Cooke MP said she was delighted to announce the grant.

“This investment will ensure the showground has state-of-the-art amenities for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Ms Cooke said.

“The Showground Stimulus is about getting projects done for our important public spaces, but also about creating local jobs and getting money moving through our communities, this work will surely do that for Ungarie.”

President of the Ungarie Football Netball Club Steve Henley said the showers would particularly benefit local netballers.

“In our club there is probably 100 netballers here on a Saturday plus the competition and the amenities have been a bit of a battle over the past few years on big days,” Mr Henley said.

“To have somewhere with hot showers it will make such a big difference to the entire community.”

Bland Shire Council Mayor Brian Monaghan said the new amenities would offer a boost to those visiting the region and to local business.

“This is enormously welcomed by the current users of the recreation ground and will be pivotal in attracting additional tourists, particularly caravan users,” Mr Smith said.

“The lack of suitable amenities has been a real stumbling block for advancing the tourism strategy of Ungarie and this will overcome that.”

“It will also be a boost to local employment and the Ungarie community as we undertake this project.”
