Steph Cooke welcomes Education Week’s powerful theme: ‘Every student, every voice’

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has welcomed the theme for the 65th Education Week, ‘Every Student, Every Voice’.

Ms Cooke said the theme will encourage students right across the Cootamundra electorate to feel informed, empowered and supported in their ambitions and opinions.

“There are 63 wonderful public schools across the Cootamundra electorate and I’m so excited that this year’s Education Week theme is all about helping students grow and develop with confidence and support,” Ms Cooke said.

“It is so important for children in our region to feel as though they can speak up about what they’re passionate about; we want them to become informed and engaged global citizens.

“Reminding students that they have a voice, are valued and are cared for will give them a sense of purpose that will prepare them to be engaged citizens in a dynamic society.

“It is so important we instil these values in our children when they are at school; investing in them is an investment in our future and we are giving them the opportunity to shape the world.”

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the NSW Government is investing more than ever before in the education system.

“We are investing an unprecedented amount in NSW Education at the moment, and I am thrilled to be part of a Government providing incredible pathways and opportunities for students right across NSW,” Ms Mitchell said.

“This is more than just bricks and mortar; this is about lifting academic performance and making sure children are reaching their full potential at school.”

Education Week will celebrate the achievements of public schools, their students, staff and communities. Public schools across the State will hold showcase events for their communities. Among the events planned are open days, special assemblies, performances and principals swapping schools.
