Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has today announced funding for Young Showground from the NSW Government’s Showground Stimulus.
Young’s Showground has received grants in both phase one and two of the program, securing $27,500 to purchase and install CCTV in phase one, and $82,128 to go towards upgrades of toilet and shower facilities near the main arena.
Already 42 cameras have been erected throughout the showground by local businesses from the first phase of funding, improving security at the site. Upgrades to the outdated toilet block will bring a year-round boost to campers and other users of the showground.
Ms Cooke said she was delighted to have secured funding for this important community asset.
“These two rounds of stimulus funding are making important upgrades at the showground which will enhance the experience of every visitor and group who use the site,” Ms Cooke said.
“This has been a challenging year for many of our community organisations and I am so pleased this assistance is available to make these improvements and reinvigorate our local economy.
Chairman of the Young Land Management Trust Bill Daly said the stimulus was a vital boost in what had been a difficult year for the showground.
“This funding gives us the opportunity to improve the ground to give the facilities that are needed for the public, we’ve had such a great response from the upgrades that have been done so far,” Mr Daly said.
“We’ve got a lot more weddings booked in, we’ve got a lot of camping.”
“This assistance is so important for us; when COVID came in the showground’s income basically stopped. This stimulus is the only way we could improve the ground and keep the ground running.”
