Time to nominate carers from the Cootamundra electorate

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke today urged the community to nominate local carers or organisations supporting carers for the 2018 NSW Carers Awards.

“Carers are everyday people in our community. They are family members, friends, neighbours and work colleagues,” Ms Cooke said.

“It is important that we send a strong message to carers within our local community that we appreciate all they do.

“I encourage anyone who knows of an exceptional local carer or organisation supporting carers to nominate them for this year’s awards.”

Ray Williams Minister for Disability Services said the NSW Carers Awards recognises the remarkable contribution of unpaid carers, organisations, employers and carer groups from across the state.

“There are close to one million carers across NSW who provide ongoing unpaid support to people who need it because of their disability, chronic illness, mental illness or frail age,” Mr Williams said.

The 2018 awards will be presented by Mr Williams at the Carers NSW Biennial Carers Conference dinner.

The award ceremony will coincide with this year’s Carers Week to celebrate the week and further promote the role that carers play in our community.

Up to 10 awards will be presented during the ceremony, including the 2018 NSW Carer of the Year.

Nominations for the NSW Carers Awards close on Friday 10 August 2018. For information about the Awards and how to nominate, please go to www.careforacarer.nsw.gov.au
