The Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke and Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey have opened upgrades at the Cowra Showground.

The Cowra Showground Land Manager were awarded $445,299 for safety upgrades, a new amenities building, stabling sheds and a new race commentary tower from the NSW Government’s Showground Safety Upgrades fund.

An additional $82,500 from the Showground Stimulus was announced and will be used to construct roads, install power connections for additional camping sites, improve laundry facilities, install solar lighting and construct additional disabled toilet facilities.

The funding follows a $324,925 grant under the Public Reserves Management Fund for upgrades to the showground’s pavilion announced in 2017.

Ms Cooke said the strong investment from the NSW Government was helping to transform the showground for multiple uses.

“I am so impressed at the new facilities which will mean even more people can attend events and enjoy the Showground,” Ms Cooke said.

“The Cowra Showground is used for many events, functions and even as a camping site, and I am proud we are investing in this important community space.”

Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said it was wonderful to be out in Cowra this week to see what a multi-use Cowra Showground is.

“This year we have seen how important showgrounds are to our regional communities. They have been a safety net for many families and their animals,” Mrs Pavey said.

Treasurer of the Cowra Showground Racecourse and Paceway Land Managers Cr Ruth Fagan said she was delighted at the finished amenities and the additional funding.

“The new amenities block replaced a 1920’s male-only urinal set up with modern and accessible facilities, and this additional $82,500 will help us create a fully-fledged caravan park at the site,” Cr Fagan said.

“It’s fantastic to have a caravan park site here, the revenue helps fund improvements at other facilities in the showground including the turnstiles, caretakers cottage and we are now working on the Pony Club area.”
