Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has today celebrated the service of Junee’s Barbara Guthrie who has been recognised with a Seniors Local Achievement Award.

For over 40 years Barbara Guthrie has been an active volunteer in the Junee community. She has been heavily involved in the Trotting Club, Tennis Club, Meals on Wheels and is currently the Treasurer of the Senior Citizens Club.

Mrs Guthrie is a passionate advocate for all people in the community and was nominated for the award by the Junee Rotary Club.

Steph Cooke MP said she was delighted to be able to recognise Barbara’s service.

“Barbara Guthrie has been at the forefront of fighting for the Senior Citizens Club and securing funding to improve their hall, while including Junee’s young people in the project,” Ms Cooke said.

“She is someone who goes above and beyond to support others in the community.”

“People like Barbara make our communities and I am so pleased she has been recognised with this award, it is greatly deserved.”

Barbara Guthrie said she was honoured.

“I’m very excited to receive this award, I can’t believe it really. I do all this volunteering to help people and I don’t like to be out in front. I’m really pleased with this though, I’m thrilled,” Mrs Guthrie said.

“We have such a beautiful community here in Junee. It’s a real achievement to get out in the community and be with other people.”

“I would encourage everyone to do as much volunteering work as they can, there are a lot of people who need friends and need to be looked after. I just love people.”
