The Australian and NSW Governments are investing more than four million dollars in to the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council area to fix local roads.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke announced $4,073,926 from the Fixing Local Roads program for 11 projects across the shire, which range from sealing roads to fixing pavement areas.

“This is a fantastic boost for the entire region and means everyone using our roads, from school buses, increasing agriculture freight and visitors, can travel more safely around our region,” Ms Cooke said.

“This is a huge injection in to the local economy and will be a boost for local jobs, well done to the council for their fantastic application to this program.”

Mayor of the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council Abb McAlister said he was extremely pleased.

“We truly appreciate the work Steph does to sort this funding, not only for us, but for all of her local councils. She works extremely hard for all of us,” Cr McAlister said.

“There’s also the road safety side of it; at the end of the day we want to have the least fatalities and there are roads in our area that badly need rehabilitation, and it’s also good for our workforce.”

The Australian Government has committed $191 million to build on the first round of the NSW Government’s $500 million Fixing Local Roads program, ensuring even more regional communities benefit, faster.

NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the NSW Government was also accelerating its funding for the program to get more projects to seal, maintain and repair local roads under way faster.

“We’re not just putting our foot down in terms of delivering this package – we’re turbocharging it to ensure we create jobs and create better journeys on the roads that really matter to local communities,” Mr Toole said.

Projects will need to be delivered within two years of receiving funding, to ensure that local communities are benefiting sooner.
