Motorsport in the Fast Lane with New Amenities

A group of people stand in front of a new green corrugated iron building.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has opened new amenities at the Illabo Speedway.

The new accessible toilets were funded through a $29,892 grant from the Community Building Partnership program and will be utilised by Gasworks Motorsport Inc attendees and equestrian events. The toilet block has been painted to limit sun reflection and not startle horses.

Ms Cooke said the new amenities would help grow the Speedway’s already successful events.

“The amazing volunteers of Gasworks Motorsport Inc have told me their events have contributed more than half a million dollars in to the local economy over the past through years. Motorsport clearly has a bright future in Illabo and I am proud the NSW Government has been able to support this with these new amenities,” Ms Cooke said.

“It’s wonderful to see the partnership here at the wider Illabo Showground site, with consideration being given to all showground users by the Speedway. There’s a sense that when one succeeds, all succeed.”

“I want to thank all the volunteers who are so passionate about their meetings and making their events a success.”

Secretary of Gasworks Motorsport Inc Kerry Phelan said the new amenities would make a huge difference to events.

“This amenities block is a very important addition to the Speedway because it will meet our visitor’s expectations and it’s very nice for us to be able to present our home in good order,” Mr Phelan said.

We’re very happy with the NSW Government support. We’re very fortunate to have a local member in Steph Cooke, she’s always willing to listen to what we’ve got to say and this grant is testament to her support.”
