PENRITH’S PUMP STATION STENCH

Shadow Minister for Water, Steph Cooke, has highlighted a smelly concern in one of Sydney’s newest sporting precincts, at a Shadow Cabinet meeting in Penrith.

The sewage pump station, on the corner of Mulgoa Road and Ransley Street, is next door to the Panthers Stadium, where upgrades began this month. Ms Cooke said the infamous stench, joked about in local news and on social media, will leave locals and tourists in the dumps on game nights.

“It’s a poor outcome when the Minns Labor government can plan to build a whole new stadium and leave what is basically an outhouse at the front door,” Ms Cooke said.

Proposed upgrades by Sydney Water promise to improve the odours coming from the sewage pump station, but Ms Cooke said the sewage station was a foul-smelling eyesore next to one of the premiere sporting locations in Sydney.

“Even after winning four premierships, 20,000 Panthers fans will have to walk past this smelly sewage station every time they leave the current and future of Penrith Stadium on their way home, or to celebrate at the Leagues Club,” Ms Cooke said.

“That doesn’t even begin to cover more patrons using the upgraded facilities at the stadium itself. The people of Penrith know this ‘improvement’ stinks.”
