Junee Shire Council have been successful in receiving funding of $37,500 for their business case to implement Junee Shire Industrial Park thanks to an additional $10 million which brings the total program commitment to $34 million thought the NSW Government’s Regional NSW – Business Case and Strategy Development Fund.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the additional funding will enable Junee Shire Council to identify potential sites that would suit an industrial area.
“I commend the council for taking part in this program, to help strengthen the opportunities for business and the local economy in Junee for now and into the future,” Ms Cooke said.
“As our regional areas continue to grow it is important that we continue to look forward, plan ahead and ensure that we have adequate measures in place to support this growth.”
Junee Shire Council Mayor Cr Neil Smith said Council has for a number of years, expressed the desire to attract light industry to Junee. At present, Junee has no formally zoned industrial areas.
“Council has recognised that this is not particularly good planning. Nor does it give potential developers any confidence when they are considering potential locations,” Cr Smith said.
“These funds will give council the impetus to do what it has been talking about for a number of years.”
“Armed with this knowledge and an understanding of what strategic features Junee has to offer over and above other areas, we will be able to appropriately zone the right location and begin to attract businesses that best fit with Junee and it's position in the region."
This project is one of four across the electorate awarded, the Business Case and Strategy Development Fund supporting 143 projects across regional New South Wales, helping these organisations prepare for future grant opportunities and build their capacity to plan for important projects.
The Regional NSW – Business Case and Strategy Development Fund is part of the $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund and will help create a pipeline of investment-ready projects for future funding opportunities.
