Support of families doubled with two Active Kids Vouchers

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has announced that kids can keep active while parents keep the cash now that each school-enrolled child can access two $100 Active Kids vouchers from July 1.

Ms Cooke said one of the most popular programs for kids and parents has just been doubled to help kids stay active all year long.

“We all know kids want to play sport and keep active with their friends, and now parents can encourage them even more with another voucher to help spread the costs associated with participation,” Ms Cooke said.

“Sport is a huge part of life in the Cootamundra electorate and it’s fantastic that the NSW Government can help support this with the Active Kids voucher scheme.

“Living where we do, there can be additional costs for sporting families related to travel to get to events or activities, so it’s fantastic that we as a government can help a bit with the family budget.”

Minister for Sport John Sidoti said it is a big win for NSW when more kids can participate in sport because of the Government’s drive to take down the barriers to expensive registration costs.

“Whether it is soccer, scouts, AFL, rugby, netball, golf or volleyball, you’re sure to find an activity kids will love. Active Kids really is making a difference to children’s participation in sport and active recreation in NSW,” Mr Sidoti said.

From January to June there was an overall increase of 13 per cent in the number of Active Kids vouchers created, including a 17 per cent rise in vouchers created for girls following an influx of registrations for dance, gymnastics, tennis and swimming Active Kids providers.

“These are incredible results and demonstrate why the NSW Government is investing an additional $40 million this year to expand the Active Kids program.”

Each eligible child can access two $100 Active Kids vouchers each calendar year through to 2022. The first $100 voucher is available any time from January 1 to December 31.

The second $100 voucher is available any time from July 1 to December 31.

Both vouchers expire on December 31 of the year of issue and must be redeemed prior to this date.
