Applications open for Fixing Country Roads

Communities in regional NSW could soon benefit from a share in up to $150 million in Fixing Country Roads grants to upgrade regional roads, bridges and truck washes across regional NSW.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP said the NSW Government was committed to delivering better, safer road infrastructure across the State.

“Today we are opening the next round of Fixing Country Roads, which has poured more than $38 million into the Cootamundra electorate since the funding program was created in 2015,” Ms Cooke said.

“In our electorate alone we’ve already delivered funding for 45 Fixing Country Road projects, which support our freight industry by improving the connectivity of local roads, reducing the costs to business and driving economic growth in the regions.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Roads and Infrastructure Chris Gulaptis encouraged councils to submit an application to ensure they get a share of the funding.

“This is a great opportunity for our regional councils to deliver the projects that they know the local community wants,” Mr Gulaptis said.

“Councils can submit a standalone application or partner with other local government areas on larger-scale projects that could help improve the efficiency of the freight task.”

Councils can also consider applying for additional funding under Federal Government initiatives like the Bridges Renewal Program, Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program and the Building Better Regions Fund.

The 2019 instalment is part of the $543 million NSW Liberals and Nationals in Government’s Fixing Country Roads program.

Applications are open until October 20, 2019.

For information on the Fixing Country Roads funding criteria, program guidelines and how to submit an application can be found https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/operations/freight-hub.
