Applications open for floodplain management grants

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke today announced that applications are open for grant funding to assist NSW councils with floodplain management projects.

“Grant funding is available to assist local government with flood studies, flood risk management studies and plans and major projects such as flood levees, gates and warning systems in high risk areas, under the 2019-20 Floodplain Management Program,” Ms Cooke said.

“I encourage our local Councils to apply for the 2019-20 funding round of the Floodplain Management Program.

“In the 2018-19 funding round 33 projects were awarded to local councils and other authorities to undertake priority projects to assess the risks and reduce the impacts of flooding in NSW,” Ms Cooke said.

“These included $77,000 for Narrandera Shire Council to examine in detail the levee options that have been developed for Barellan in the floodplain risk management process.

.Eighteen projects totalling $5.1 million were funded under the NSW Government Floodplain Management Program and fifteen projects totalling $1.8 million under the Floodplain Grants Scheme were funded jointly by the Office of Emergency Management and the Commonwealth Government.

Local councils, county councils and other government bodies with floodplain risk management responsibilities equivalent to those of local councils are eligible to apply. Applications close March 20, 2019.
