THE next step of the Cowra Hospital redevelopment is underway, with Cowra Health Council releasing a community survey to paint a clear picture of the community’s health needs.
The $70 million upgrade is an election commitment from the NSW Government and construction is due to commence before 2023.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said every step closer to the hospital redevelopment is vital to providing the best possible healthcare for the community.
“We want this new hospital to be the right fit for Cowra, that’s why we need your help to understand the unique needs of people in the region,” she said.
“The Cowra community has already showed just how passionate they are about this redevelopment, with more than 3,700 people signing the petition we started to secure funding for the project. We need everyone to be part of this survey and make sure the redevelopment provides the services and facilities needed now and in the future.”
Chief Executive of Western NSW Local Health District Scott McLachlan said the short survey will give insight in to the future health needs of the community and is part a broader community consultation plan.
“Building a hospital that serves the needs of a community well into the future is a complex process,” he said.
“It involves detailed analysis of the future health needs of the community and how the service fits into the broader network of health services in the region.”
“I know that the families in and around Cowra who rely on the hospital are going to take a keen interest in this project, and this survey will be just one of several opportunities to be involved.”
“Along with looking at the views of the community, there will be clinical services and facility planning processes that will be undertaken that will help direct how the new hospital is brought to life.”
Residents of Cowra can collect a survey from the Cowra Hospital at 64 Liverpool Street, Cowra or from Cowra Shire Council offices at 116 Kendal Street Cowra.
