Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke today announced the official opening of the $1.67 million Tara-Bectric Road Bridge replacement in the Temora Shire Council region.
“We are very proud to be boosting regional industry through these significant upgrade works,” Ms Cooke said.
“Freight is worth $60 billion to the NSW economy and road infrastructure plays a crucial role in ensuring connectivity and regional economic activity.
“For the local grain industry in particular, this bridge replacement will significantly reduce freight costs.”
The project saw the construction of a new road bridge, demolition of the existing structure and road re-alignment works.
Funding of $1.45 million was provided by the NSW Government through the Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads program, which funds vital road and bridge upgrades in regional NSW.
Ms Cooke said the new bridge will be able to support higher productivity vehicles, cutting transport costs and creating efficiency savings for the grain industry.
The new bridge will mean better access to the GrainCorp and Preston Grain sites for heavy vehicles.
“This project will provide a direct route to regional and state road networks,” Ms Cooke said.
“We expect it will open the door for regional businesses to expand and grow, as well as stimulating growth for the local economy,” Ms Cooke said.
“I would like to thank Temora Shire Council which also contributed $220,000 and managed the delivery of the project.”
The NSW Government has reserved $500 million for the Fixing Country Roads program over multiple funding rounds.
