Cowra Shire Council benefits from low interest infrastructure loans

Cowra Shire Council is benefiting from low interest loans to fund vital infrastructure projects, Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said today.

Ms Cooke said the council is among 43 across the State which have accessed more than half a billion dollars in low interest loans through TCorp (NSW Treasury Corporation) to fund new infrastructure and upgrade existing facilities.

“It’s so important that thriving communities are supported by strong infrastructure, and TCorp ensures this can happen,” Ms Cooke said.

“I am pleased to see Cowra Shire Council benefiting from access to competitive and secure finance to provide key infrastructure for our local community.

“The Council has accessed $2,128,993 in TCorp to redevelop its depot, expand Cowra Cemetery and subdivide Cowra Airport.

“These worthwhile projects will provide real and lasting benefits for the Cowra community,” Ms Cooke said.

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said TCorp is helping local councils fund key infrastructure projects while also encouraging councils to place a greater focus on the management and renewal of their assets.

“The NSW Government is committed to ensuring the financial sustainability of councils across the State by providing them with access to low interest loans to help them deliver the services and infrastructure to make their communities better places to live, work and raise a family.”

Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock said this multi-million-dollar funding injection for local councils across the State is ensuring investment in projects that will deliver real and lasting benefits to local communities.

“Forty-three councils have accessed TCorp low interest loans helping slash the local government sector infrastructure backlog by $3.9 billion.”
