Hello again,
As I write, some of our local councils are issuing updates about local road closures as a result of significant rainfall in parts of the electorate. Please keep an eye out for updates from your local council and remember if it’s flooded, forget it.
Earlier today, I had the honour of joining representatives from Hilltops Council, Young High School and School Infrastructure NSW for a topping out ceremony to mark the completion of the highest point of the new joint-use library facility. I am looking forward to seeing this project take shape over the coming months.
I have also been in Cootamundra today, to visit the team at Cootamundra Hospital and Cootamundra Police Station. It was great to see Chief Superintendent Andrew Spliet, Inspector Thomas Murdoch and probationary constables Jess Martinesi and Keanu Sawyer.
Of course, last week the NSW Government received the Local Government Boundaries Commission report on the proposed demerger of Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. I welcome the report from the Commission, thank those who have engaged in this crucial process and look forward to the NSW Government’s response in due course.
Staying on important local issues, I recently met with Mark Degotardi, CEO of Community Housing Industry Association NSW and Carolyn Doherty, CEO of Argyle Housing to further discuss issues pertaining to homelessness and social housing in our electorate. It was very good to meet with them, particularly as this week is Homelessness Week.
The NSW Government is making a record investment to address homelessness and ensure that safe and stable accommodation is available to people in need. As part of these efforts, I am pleased we will see mobile outreach teams visiting West Wyalong, Temora, Young, Cootamundra, Junee and Narrandera later in the year and I look forward to sharing more information about this initiative soon.
With warm regards,
Steph Cooke MP
MP for Cootamundra
