Probationer follows his grandfather’s footsteps to start police career in Junee

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke visited Junee Police Station today to help welcome new recruit Constable Jayden Prior to the community.

Ms Cooke joined Superintendent Bob Noble, Commander of the Riverina Police District, Inspector Rob Vergano and Junee Shire Council Mayor Neil Smith to welcome Constable Prior.

“It’s fantastic to welcome Constable Prior into the community of Junee,” Ms Cooke said.

“It’s been a great year for the Cootamundra electorate with the introduction of numerous probationary constables right across the electorate and into small communities like here in Junee, Cootamundra, Gundagai, Cowra and West Wyalong.

“It’s fantastic that these young people are given the opportunity to come out into our part of the world and start their policing career here,” Ms Cooke added.

Superintendent Noble said Constable Prior’s arrival would complement the work already being done in the Junee community.

“Police have been working extremely hard here under Inspector Rob Vergano’s leadership,” Supt Noble said.

“They’ve achieved some great things but they need support and some fresh legs, and PC Prior’s arrival will carry us into the New Year,” he said.

PC Prior has moved from the Hurstville area in Sydney to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps.

“It’s good to be out in a small community and away from the big city,” PC Prior said. “It’s a bit of a change but I’m adjusting well so far.

“My grandfather was a police officer and it’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little boy,” he added.
