Travel on the Hume Highway between Coolac and Jugiong is set to be a whole lot smoother thanks to important improvement works which began this week.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the NSW Government is funding more than $2.3 million to carry out works between Coggins and Cooneys Creek roads.
“The Hume Highway is a key road in the region for locals and visitors alike, this is an important upgrade which will mean a smoother journey for motorists,” Ms Cooke said.
“Replacing the existing road surface with concrete will ensure less wear and tear on tyres and will also reduce future costs for maintaining the road.”
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said traffic will be diverted onto the southbound lanes for almost 7 kilometres while work is conducted.
“As a key freight route between Sydney and Victoria this upgrade will ensure a safer, smoother and more reliable journey for motorists using this arterial road,” Mr Farraway said.
“The NSW Government is securing a brighter future for NSW families through our $19.4 billion infrastructure pipeline by building what matters so you can get from A to B quicker and safer.”
Works will begin on Monday 29 August and will start by moving traffic from the northbound lanes onto the southbound lanes. Provisions will be in place for property access for the duration of the works.
Major work will be carried out from 7am to 5pm from Monday 29 August until Friday 9 December on weekdays only, weather permitting. Reduced speed limits of 40 km/h, 60 km/h and 80 km/h will be in place for the duration of the project.
Oversize and over mass vehicles wider than 4.2 metres will be asked to follow instructions on electronic signage and use the oversize pullover bay before contacting the site representative so the project team can ensure safe access through the site. Motorists should plan their journey and allow 5 to 10 minutes additional travel time.
