Young Preschool Kindergarten celebrates 51 years of helping our littlest learners

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke joined Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell today to help Young Pre School Kindergarten celebrates its 51st birthday.

The preschool had a surprise visit from a very special guest who helped cut the birthday cake: former teaching assistant Dot Walton, who is 90 years old.

“It was a wonderful occasion and it was lovely to see Dot arrive to cut the birthday cake,” Ms Cooke said.

“The children were delighted to see Dot and she was just as thrilled to see them – I’m sure she has so many memories of her time working with all the kids who have started on their learning journeys here.

“They sang some songs for us which was a real treat for Dot, Minister Mitchell and me.”

Ms Mitchell said the visit was an absolute delight for her.

“It was wonderful for me to be able to visit the school on such an auspicious occasion, which was made even more special by the visit from Dot,” Ms Mitchell said.

“Every school I visit is a privilege but there is something about listening to a choir of preschool kids which makes for a very special day.”

Preschool director Angie Milne said she was pleased to be able to host the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning.

“We recently had an assessment and we did really well, so it was lovely to be able to speak with Ms Mitchell about our achievements,” Ms Milne said.

“Having Dot with us today on our birthday made it even more special, as she has a long history with us. She gave 29 years of devotion, love and care to our children and families, so it was lovely to be able to host her on a return visit to see us all.”
