Henry Lawson Oval Upgrades Open

Steph Cooke, Mayor Mark Liebich and others cut a red ribbon to open the grandstand.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has opened the upgrades at Grenfell’s Henry Lawson Oval.

The community’s premiere sporting facility received three allocations of funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, $50,000 for a fitness circuit, $110,000 for a new grandstand, and $820,000 for new amenities.

Ms Cooke said the new facilities were an investment in the future of the Grenfell community.

“This community deserves state of the art facilities and up to date spaces to exercise, play and watch sport,” Ms Cooke said.

“I am so proud of what has been achieved here. Congratulations to the entire Weddin Shire Council, staff and contractors who have been part of this project.”

Weddin Shire Council Mayor Cr Mark Liebich said sport is a vital part of country communities and the upgraded facilities will be much enjoyed.

“This facility will be the home of the Grenfell Goannas, the Grenfell Girlannas and the Grenfell Junior Rugby League teams. These facilities will attract a range of ages and sporting interests such as touch football and soccer and exercise groups just to name a few,” Cr Liebich said.

“This facility is a major milestone for Weddin Shire Community.”
