Better Access to Before and After School Care for Cowra

Fifteen Before and After School Care (BASC) services will benefit from Round 2 of the NSW Government’s Transport Grant Program, with priority given to students in small, regional and remote public schools.

The PCYC Cowra Out of School Hours (OOSH) Care has been successful in securing $59,900 to fund transportation to provide a Before School Care service and increase current After School Care.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the funding is welcome investment to providing more support to families in Cowra and the broader district.

“I’m proud we are providing funding to ensure local families with children at public primary schools have even more access to Before and After School,” Ms Cooke said.

“This will support them in achieving balance between work and other commitments, and ensuring students are well supported over the course of their day.

“I understand the program at Cowra has gone from strength to strength over the past 18 months, with Coordinator Caitlin Dixon doing a tremendous job in building up numbers involved in the program.”

Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell congratulated the service on the success of their application.

“These grants are part of a $235 million funding commitment made by the NSW Government in March 2019 that is supporting projects, initiatives and activities that seek to develop sustainability and innovation in Before and After School Care services across the state,” Ms Mitchell said.

The NSW Government has already grown the BASC sector by adding 213 services and 19,632 places since July 2019. These investments are part of the NSW Governments commitment to support better education and wellbeing outcomes for children and more affordable and accessible care opportunities for families.
