The region could benefit from a share in $12 million in funding from the NSW Government to help councils plan for housing that is affordable, diverse, and resilient to natural hazards.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said councils are eligible to apply for up to $250,000 as part of the Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund.
“I encourage all councils in the electorate to apply for funding to help deliver strategic plans, housing policies and technical studies that pave the way for new housing supply needed to support our growing community,” Ms Cooke said.
“This grant will help prioritise the up-front planning required to speed up the housing pipeline in the right areas of the region.”
Minister for Planning and Minister for Homes Anthony Roberts said the investment is part of the Government’s comprehensive response to the Regional Housing Taskforce’s recommendations.
“We have accepted and are implementing all five of the Taskforce’s recommendations to break down barriers and make sure the right settings are in place to unlock housing,” Mr Roberts said.
“Our $2.8 billion housing package will help us pave the way for hundreds of thousands of new homes and ensure locals and key workers moving to the regions have a place to call home.
“Apart from this funding, we’ll build on the efforts already achieved and underway, including planning reforms and the 2041 Housing Strategy, by undertaking a range of initiatives to improve data, develop partnerships, speed up assessments, unlock land, and enable infrastructure to create a strong housing pipeline across regional NSW.”
Councils must nominate their initiatives under the Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund by 30 September 2022.
