NAIDOC Week 2020 was postponed in July due to COVID-19 and is now being celebrated this week with the theme Always Was, Always Will Be.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said NAIDOC Week is about celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements.
“A number of events will be held throughout the electorate in recognition of this annual celebration.
“The NSW Government 2020 NAIDOC Grants have supported 95 community-led events across the state, four of which are in the Cootamundra Electorate.
“Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre have been awarded $1,500 to hold a flag raising celebration including craft workshops.
“Also in Cowra, St Raphael’s Catholic School received $500 toward a week of celebrations including cultural workshops, liturgy, assembly and a community picnic lunch with bush tucker.
“In Narrandera, Ngum baay Indigenous Corporation received $1,000 for the Always Was Always Will Be Community BBQ and Narrandera Shire Council were granted $1,000 for community celebrations including a showcase of local Aboriginal artists, musicians and business owners.
“NAIDOC Week is an important event in our annual calendar as we celebrate Australia’s cultural history and diversity.”
