Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke today announced funding for the Ganmain Swimming Club from the NSW Government’s Sports Grants program.
Ms Cooke awarded $1,788 for the Club’s Training Toolbox, which will enable them to purchase swimming fins, storage trolleys and lane rope.
Ms Cooke said the grants would help the club expand their skills and the opportunities for members.
“In a former life I was a passionate swimmer and know just how important equipment and training is for this wonderful sport,” Ms Cooke said.
“This is a twofold good news story; not only is the Club growing and gaining new members learning vital skills and developing a love for this sport, but they are able to get state of the art equipment through this grant. Well done!”
Lycinda Harris from the Ganmain Swimming Club said she was delighted.
“This means a lot, we’ve had a lot of new memberships over the last couple of years and our equipment has started to get a bit outdated, so it’s great to be able to buy new equipment,” Ms Harris said.
“We’ll be able to buy new flippers, a lane rope to cater for the extra numbers and storage. It’s really good that our little club is growing, kids start to drop off once they go to high school, but we are keeping a few of them for a bit longer and we’ve got lots of little ones coming through.”
